Hi.

Welcome to my blog. I document my adventures in travel, style, and food. Hope you have a nice stay!

WHAT SHOULD I CHEW ON WHEN I AM BORED, MY DOG ASKED?

A few good chewing options are pigs feet and elk antlers found at most pet stores.

So between the controversy with raw hide and the smell of Bullie breath (you all know what that means!), I had to reach out to someone in the know! Alanna Heiss had told me about this brilliant vet out of Philadelphia who is an expert on all things holistic and good for animals! I was perplexed - Bullie sticks, pig feet, antlers, which is it!! Natasha Kassell's reply was this!

“I’m a big fan of little round soup bones (beef) for small dogs. Downsides: dogs can break teeth on them, and the marrow is very fatty. That said, the marrow is also super nutritious, so if your dogs don’t have weight issues and don’t get diarrhea from it, I say let them eat it. Of course, you can always scoop the marrow out and give the dogs the bones marrow-free. They’ll still love them. Other good options for chewing are elk antlers and water buffalo horns. (I can only hope the rest of these animals are used for something worthwhile and that these chew treats are by-products that would otherwise be chucked.)  Pig feet are good. If cooked, make sure they don’t have nasty preservatives. Or, if you can stand the mess factor (which is formidable), go raw. But know that pig feet, like soup bones, have a lot of fat and can cause an upset belly.”
