“I think I’m an old soul,” muses Remy Lark-bassi, a five year-old black Standard Poodle. “I’m so comfortable in vintage pieces—especially capes and berets and head scarves—that I really think I must have been a part of Coco’s or Cristobal’s or Christian’s posse in a past life.” Such lofty claims could only come from a Standard, though this Standard is anything but lofty. For close to a year, she’s been gracing Instagram in head-to-paw fashions on @dailyremy, as well as her mistress’s @wmagjane. WmagJane is Jane Larkworthy, the beauty director of W magazine, although Remy refers to her as the Lady. “The Lady used to bring me home doggie shampoo, or some biscuits that a publicist gave her, which was very thoughtful, of course,” demurs the coal-eyed pooch. “But the day she pulled that embroidered Miu Miu coat off the rack and draped it around my neck, I was like, "Burn those silly dog sweaters! Baby Girl has found her calling!” With legs practically as long as a colt's, Remy seems preternaturally destined for modeling, but she stays trim with morning squirrel chases and long weekend hikes. “I never know what the Lady will bring home,” she explains. “It could be a Alex Wang poncho, but it could just as likely be some Hervé Leger bondage dress, so I can’t do anything crazy, like down a whole bag of kibble in one sitting.” Not in the near future, anyway, as a coffee table book is apparently in the works. “That kind of exposure would be cool for my breed", she explains magnanimously. “When you say Poodle, everyone thinks ‘French Poodle’ or ‘Miniature Poodle;’ but they often forget about Standards. One time, someone pointed to me and asked The Lady, “Is that a Generic Poodle?’ Get it? Generic? Standard?” The lady laughed, but I nearly died."
