"My friend, who had just returned from Arizona, arrived with a very young puppy who had never even touched grass before getting to Cape Cod! We went to the beautiful Wequassett Resort with Murphy so that I could take some photos. Well, it struck me how in awe Murphy was regarding stepping on the grass, feeling the sand, seeing the birds along the shoreline etc., that I said to his mom, I would love to do a book seeing the Cape for the first time, through Murphy's eyes.
My inspiration has always been Rachel Hale. She gives her reader such a sense of place and that is exactly what I wanted my book to do with dogs who see the Cape for the first time and dogs who have known the Cape their whole lives.
I started out with Murphy but soon realized I needed to broaden my horizons if I wanted to reach a large number of people. This was how it all started; two years ago on Fourth of July weekend!
My dogs are everything to me. I have only rescued dogs, personally, as they are foremost in my heart. I love photographing all dogs and will kill myself to get to them! I remember being in Paris and running across one of the most congested traffic areas to get to this lady who was walking two black pugs. I had to get to her. It is not just a desire to meet these dogs, it is imperative!!!!!! I want to know everything about all of them!" Thank you Kim for sharing this with Mrs. Sizzle.
DOGS ON CAPE COD by Kim Roderiques is available in fine bookstores everywhere.
