Last month Bellport Village was overrun with dogs again this year for the second annual dog parade down Main Street Friday.

Mrs. Sizzle’s Dogs Night Out was part of the local efforts in NBCUniversal’s national Clear the Shelters Day.

The dogs were picked up at Brookhaven Animal Shelter and driven past the parade-watchers in Bellport Village. The caravan was lead by animal lover and advocate Suzanne Donaldson, aka Mrs. Sizzle, who organized the event.  In the last month 20 dogs and roughly 27 cats were adopted from the shelter.

With shelters reporting in real time across the U.S. Saturday, including from Brookhaven, NBCUniversal’s tracker showed 45,252 shelter pets were adopted.

That number more than doubles the tally from 2015, the first year of the nationwide effort.
