Take me out to the ball game
Take me out with the crowd
Buy me some treats and some raw hide chews
It's a long game so I might take a snooze
And it's RUFF RUFF RUFF
For the home team
If they don't win it's a shame
Aahh.
For it's one,
Two,
Three paws you're out
At the old ball game!
There is nothing I love more than friends reaching out to me with their rescue stories. Not only does it give me great joy, but it is the most aspirational way to reconnect with old friends and colleagues and share about our commonality - LOVE FOR ANIMALS. SO, it was with great pleasure that I heard from friend and photographer Melanie Acevedo who wanted to share her pics and story about her dogs and their role in the home.
If we're going to be honest, when we walked into the studio of the artist Alexis Rockman, the primary purpose was to meet his dog. Instead, what we found were magical drawings on the wall - the results of a 20 years study about indigenous species and his collaboration with scientists along his travels. The most fascinating part about the drawings is that they are made from organic materials that Alexis found locally in the locale of each particular animal he paints. His show, Natural History of Life in New York City, opens at Salon 94 in April. That's all I will reveal about the art now as we are here to learn about Padme, Alexis Rockman's dog.
While I was at GLAMOUR Magazine years ago, a series of videos called SHIT GIRLS SAY created by Kyle Humphrey and Graydon Sheppard were released. I found these especially hilarious as one of the "so called" bosses in the video kept yelling "WHAT'S MY PASSWORD?", eerily reminiscent of what I used to sound like from my desk at Glamour . Not only did it resonate with me but also with the rest of the country and became an instant viral sensation. Happily in my new dog life I recently came across a series of animal videos that equally astonished me and I was able to reach out to Graydon Sheppard, the genius behind all of this furry fun and ask him a few Q's:
It’s been a while since Mrs. Sizzle has visited a shelter and I was lucky enough to have some national outreach from AUSTIN, TX. Nicole Mlakar, a fantastic Austin photographer, and Anne Christian, of the brilliant dog collar & leash co, DOG + BONE , came together to do a series of portraits at the local shelter, AUSTIN PETS ALIVE.
Dogs howling and teeth chattering were the sounds that split the night in Times Square Monday late Monday evening. A magical event, in the heart of the city, on the steps of Duffy Square…a Midnight Moment, Laurie Anderson’s mesmerizing music. Music and dog lovers huddled close while the dog friendly frequency of Ms Anderson’s music inspired rhapsodic howls from the crowd.
Here at Mrs. Sizzle, we pride ourselves in being the “go to” fashion spot for discerning pet owners. With Fall in full tilt and dogs needing an extra bit of cozy, we asked some of the most gorgeous dogs we know to model with their owners on the streets of NYC. While we were shooting this dog show, we asked their parents: “What’s the one thing you love most about your dog?”.
The other week a strange thing happened at KONEKO NYC - a dog came to visit the cat cafe. But not just any dog. The dog was MARNIE, the Insta Sensation that has captured the hearts of millions.
A super fun shoot was had by all with Amy Lombard behind the camera and a wild crew on the other side! Present were Mrs. Sizzle, naturally, Mindy Montney of DOG & CO. as stylist extraordinaire and of course the mother of the furry celebrities, Katie Sturino. I had to ask the dogs a few questions this holiday season.
Tis the season for spectacular animal books and two of Mrs. Sizzle most recent finds are here! Between Two Dogs and Do Unto Animals are great ideas for the dog animal lovers in your family.
Hi, I’m Walter Cronkite. My motto is “if you’re lucky, I’ll read you the news.” Well, today’s your lucky day! In accordance with my namesake, I’ll be reporting the news…as it pertains to us animals.
This is a bit of a crazy story. My parents drove off the ferry in Orient Point, NY and in the parking lot was someone who looked suspiciously similar to me. My mother ran over to her and she did not find me but my true doppelgänger. Sure enough after looking each other up in Facebook and deciding that yes, we did in fact look like twins, we agreed to meet a year and a half or so later. Fast forward to us both instantly talking dogs and her tale of her rescue dog Steve. I gave her the assignment to write his story and I am pleased to shared it with you!
These pictures make me so happy! What’s not to love about humans and hounds, the brainchild of Melinda Montney of DOG & CO. and her partner and photographer, Robert Stoetzel. Captured on the street, these images speak to the amazing relationship between people and their pets. I don’t know about you, but each one of these images makes me smile! So very #MrsSizzle!
I have always had an eye on the Instagram account @Wolfgang2242 so when Nancy LeVine reached out to say she had just visited Steve Greig, the owner of that account, to do a shoot for her upcoming book SENIOR DOGS ACROSS AMERICA, I jumped up and down.
"Pets are the unrivaled masters of giving back. The pleasure they take in giving themselves to us is perhaps their greatest lesson. Like our animals, we are wired to connect, to reach out, to love. But unlike them, with us other things get in the way - jealousy, insecurity, irritation, anger. Pets help us constantly come back to what makes us human. They're a furry version of our best selves." Vincent Flouret, A Parisian fashion photographer, went to Los Angeles for a bit of warm air and wonder. What he found were the engaging faces of many dogs looking for homes and decided to spend time helping them with a better chance of finding homes through his photography.
